Scarlett Cafe & Restaurant

STUDIOUNODESIGN projected the interior of a 100 square meter bar and restaurant that spread serenity and a touch of elegance in Vinci, Italy.

The idea is based on the contrast between the minimal esthetic of the essential shapes of the furnitures and the foaming flowery shapes that mirror and transform on the floors.

The bar is the turning point of the site. Flowery carved figures on the wooden marks, back-illuminated dark glasses, with programmed LED light, create a cosy warm sensation to the center placed bar. The squared shaped bar allows the public to approach the internal hall through two huge openings.

Getting in the internal hall, we have an amplified sensation of warmth, relax and serenity, due to the wall paintings that play with the chairs fabric. The two crystal blades gives a sense of fragmentation that unites with the origami lamps, recalling the whole sense of the Scarlett Cafe.

Source Flagship Store By HUGE Architects

HUGE Architects a Shanghai, China based design firm has recently completed the Source Flagship store in Beijing China.

Source is a street fashion retailer and was established in Shanghai in 2006. This one-stop fashion centre of street culture sells the hottest street fashion brands from the USA, Italy, the Netherlands, UK, Australia and Japan.

For their new Flagship Store in Beijing, they required that the entire store have maximum flexibility of displaying products and a warehouse-like and industrial atmosphere. The store features a 9 meter high Shoe Tower – based on a concept of stacked shoeboxes – which functions as the main display feature as well as a staircase connecting the two floors of the store.

The design of the overall racking system is based on a fashion warehouse distribution centre where racking can be easily manually moved around on skids. Some skids are also used for displaying artwork during exhibitions held in the store. The wall display pieces are also modular which can also clamp onto the metal mesh wall grid structure, which allows for total flexibility regarding visual
merchandising.

The second floor also features two Shoe Walls, each with over 70 standardized L-shaped shoe display elements, which are shifting in different directions to create curved and wave effect wall shapes.

Glass House in Africa

Nico Van Der Meulen Architects (or simply Nico) are a team of registered architects with the South African Council and they have a truly impressive portfolio. The first project from Nico we would like to show you is called “The Glass House” and is located in Johannesburg, South Africa. The brief included the fact that the future owner of the house wanted a “glamorous contemporary open-plan light-filled house that offered a view to the garden from every room”. The garden is not exactly a classical one, but a modern green space which includes a pool and a decorative round fountain.

Black House by FORM / Koichi Kimura Architects

FORM/Koichi Kimura Architects designed this house with a completely black exterior but almost white courtyard.

The interior is also full of contrasts. Some rooms are dark and some are light. Thanks to this contrasts the house looks very modern and interesting.

Volcano House

In the dusty desert lands of Southern California, two hours east from the city of Los Angeles, lies the Volcano House: a concrete modernist masterpiece that sits on top of a small volcanic peak. Truss beams and heavily-laid concrete formed the desert dome, which radiates a sort of tongue-in-cheek brutalism that screams 1960s American modernism both inside and out.

Dogmatic NY

EFGH Architectural Design Studio projected the interior and storefront of the new flagship restaurant Dogmatic Gourmet Sausage System on Union Square in New York City.

The 55 square meter restaurant is based on the aesthetic of the butchery with a communal butcher-block table as centerpiece of the space that incorporates retractable cantilevered seats to avoid any freestanding furniture. A raised built-in banquet on the west wall overlooks the restaurant while providing the base for the Sausage Wall of Fame.

A mural describing the Dogmatic story is baked onto the ceramic tiles using a transfer toner technique. The tall vertical glass menu board screens a portion of the open kitchen, while hanging off a steel armature from the restaurant hood. Meat hooks support the lighting cylinders on tracks. The custom steel design storefront doors pivot to allow for maximum openness and connection to the outside.
