Wettingen School Cafeteria

The old cafeteria of the Wettingen School was too small, due to constantly raising pupil number, so :mlzd projected the new cafeteria according to the typology of the existing buildings.

The new cafeteria has a rural character and part of a the conceptual and formal analogy with the traditional farm, which makes the volume, types and structural features of the interior space.

The building envelope, composed of a homogeneous coverage of black anodized aluminum sheets, plays with the light that seeps between the silhouettes of the flowers and leafs cutout of the aluminum sheets.

Studio Ippolito Fleitz Group

The number of co-workers at Ippolito Fleitz Design Studio has grown with its tasks, therefore the architects and communications designers have jointly created for themselves a new place of work on a floor of an old office building in Stuttgart.

The design of the space is in accordance with their own demanding standard as “identity architects”; the office is to be the hallmark that conveys their identity to both clients and co-workers.

Two long work desks cultivate a creative and communicative atmosphere. Shelving and furniture are executed in white or dark wood. Contrasting accents of color are set by textile bands above the workplaces that serve as light switches, and the areas of green plants. In addition to two conference rooms, cheerful communication islands are available for discussions. The studio with spacious kitchen and oversized mires is a place of both inspiration and relaxation.

Santander House by A-Cero

Based in Santander / Spain, this house was designed by architects from A-Cero. This 2,204 sq. m. house features all possible rooms needed for contemporary lifestyle. There are garage, laundry, pantry, several bathrooms, kitchen, dining area, office, games room, small library with home cinema, 2 kids bedrooms and master bedroom with walk-in wardrobe. The house is located on a skewed rectangular plot, with a gradient of around 1 in 3 and covering 2,204m2. The plot is bordered on the south by the access road, to the north and east by other properties and the west by a pedestrian pathway. The project evolves, embracing the surroundings via a set of 3 very simple rectangular volumes, a large longitudinal central core from which two others protrude, angled slightly to the west and setting sun, one at ground level and the second, housing the master bedroom upstairs. The focus of the design was to maximize views of the river Miera to the South.

Otto Bock Health Care Center

Gnädinger Architects projected the Otto Bock HealthCare building located in the city of Berlin.

Otto Bock HealthCare is a world leader in prosthetics and orthotics, reason why the organic-dynamic design of the six story building is based on the principles of nature.

The facade bands have modeled the structure of muscle fibers that encircle the building structure in soft form. The soft appearance, combined with a unique facade media production, is an open, friendly and accessible institution, and thus contributes to the image building of the company.

Private Boy's School in Washington

St. Albans School, was founded in 1909 and is a well known boys’ school from the USA. Recently, a makeover of the institution was necessary, so the company hired was Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM). The brief was to create a large (25,000-square-foot) expansion for the building and also to renovate the place almost entirely. A connection between the school’s four separate constructions was also required and of course it had to be as “natural” as possible. The architects took advantage of the location and created amazing interior and exterior passage areas, which join the buildings. Also, a completely new construction was raised, named Marriott Hall, which provides and aesthetic contrast with the rest of the project. The classes are spacious and lighting (artificial as well as natural) was an intensely studied facto by the team.

Otra Arquitectura Office

Otra Arquitectura turned a small abandoned space in downtown Monterrey, Mexico, into their office/workshop.

The space is barely 60 square meter, and built mainly out of ashlar walls covered in several layers of stucco and paint acquired over the years. The ashlar walls were stripped down to its original state, to take advantage of its texture and colors, giving the space a warm feeling.

Color is very important in this project, and a range of 5 colors was selected based on the colors os the office’s image and colors already existing in the nearby area, that fit perfectly with the kind of derelict surrounding in which the project is located. The colors are purple, red, orange, yellow and green.

The main space is divided into the office’s lobby and the workshop by a garden wall. The flowerpots from the lower garden wall seem to absurd the floor’s purple color, and gently turn into a yellow, as if the flowerpots were pixels in an image. The plants in each flowerpot, combined with the ashlar walls, provide the office with a fresh, cool, clean environment.

In the workshop, vinyl graphics are used in the purple polyurethane covered floor, in the shape of comic bubbles pointing towards the chairs, describing the job of each chair occupant with written sounds.
