Mumbai practice Planet 3 Studio Architecture have completed new facilities at Vidyalankar Institute of Technology in, Mumbai, India, the interior of which incorporates a lotus flower-shaped learning centre.
The project involved converting an existing industrial building; the core of the structure was removed and a mezzanine floor added, as well as a new external skin.
“The design borrows heavily from the language and forms of nature,” says Kalhan Mattoo of Planet 3 Studios Architecture.
The building’s skin is intended to evoke “the sway of tall grass stalks up-close in strong wind” and shelters a patio connected to the canteen.
